Palms Casino Resort, a mainstay of the Las Vegas Strip, is suing a former host for allegedly stealing confidential company information about thousands of high roller customers by sending the information to her personal email account. For her part, the former employee is suing Palms for retaliatory termination after she was fired two days after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor.
The woman was hired in September 2011 by Palms to work as a host in the casino’s table games area. Her job duties included giving out complimentary services to and fulfilling requests for gamers.
According to the casino’s lawsuit, supervisors learned in June that the host was searching for a new job. They accessed her work email account and discovered that she had sent more than 50,000 files about several thousand VIP customers, including about 6,000 people who were going to be invited to Palms’ annual Super Bowl party and 500 high rollers. Leaking the information violated the confidentiality agreement the host signed when she began working at Palms, the lawsuit contends. The woman was fired on July 9.
Prior to a court hearing about the lawsuit, the former employee said that she emailed herself the data so she could work from home and denied giving out company secrets to anyone. She has filed a separate lawsuit alleging that Palms’ firing was revenge for her filing a sexual harassment complaint with the Nevada Equal Rights Commission regarding a male supervisor’s behavior.
