What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas? Maybe not

The official Las Vegas tourism slogan is so successful that it has become a part of contemporary conversation across the country: “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” is everywhere. Often considered a lighthearted joke about “Sin City,” the phrase has found its way into a lawsuit filed by a woman against her former fiancée.

She’s suing her former husband-to-be for the cost of their canceled wedding. She alleges he cheated on her with a one-night stand while in Las Vegas for a bachelor party.

She’s asking the court to compensate her for the cost of the honeymoon they planned in Bora Bora, as well as the cost of her wedding gown, dresses for bridesmaids, invitations and other expenses incurred.

The wedding was called off less than a month before it was scheduled to take place.

According to the Daily Mail, the former bride-to-be filed a claim for $62,814 after she found out about his alleged infidelity.

She alleges her former boyfriend met a woman at a Las Vegas nightclub and then had sex with her in his hotel room.

The plaintiff says her former fiancée believes the tourism slogan is more than a clever marketing phrase and that he tried to hide the affair from her.

“The defendant, seemingly believing that ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,’ denied that anything happened,” the newspaper quotes the litigation.

Four days after the defendant returned to Chicago from his trip to Nevada last summer, the plaintiff purportedly found text messages from the other woman. He denied the affair but admitted to kissing the other woman.

He then informed the plaintiff that he would not marry her.

The plaintiff says in her lawsuit that the “defendant had a fiduciary duty of implied fidelity to plaintiff.”

She also stated that she suffered emotional distress having to inform friends and family that the wedding was off and explaining why it was canceled.
