Woman’s dating service failure the subject of Clark County lawsuit

A dating service that does business in Clark County has been sued by a former client who says that the service did not fix her up with “suitable male companions” as promised. Instead, the woman behind the lawsuit claims, the company set her up with men that lived nowhere near her or otherwise did not meet her expectations. The woman, who paid the company more than $78,000, is seeking more than $10,000 in damages for this failure to find her a boyfriend.

The plaintiff, who lives in the United Kingdom, contacted the company, Valenti Enterprises LLC, the day after Valentine’s Day 2010. Apparently unhappy with being single on the holiday most people in the U.S. associate with romance, she signed up for a two-year subscription to Valenti’s service. In exchange for her wiring $78,279.55 to the company, Valenti Enterprises promised to introduce her to “suitable male companions,” the lawsuit says.

But over the next seven or so months, the service only fixed up the plaintiff with four men, only one of whom lived in Europe. One of the meetings took place when the woman came to the U.S. on vacation. As she described him, the man had six children and parents in poor health, preventing him from coming to the U.K. to visit her and making him a poor match.

The plaintiff says she demanded a refund in October 2010. In response, the company allegedly told her they had gotten a date for her with a man in London. But that date never took place.

It is not clear from a news article about this lawsuit why the plaintiff went to an American dating service company instead of one based in her home country, which would likely have had many more local male clients.
