Nicollette Sheridan employment suit resurrected

The entertainment industry is a huge part of Las Vegas’ tourism economy, and the men and women hired to perform in the city’s many shows are often paid large sums of money for their contributions. When employment issues involving the contracts of famous or high-profile performers arise, they can become quite contentious, in part because the public is often very interested in the outcomes. These types of disputes can result in contract or employment litigation, and can often stretch out for very long periods of time.

After several years of legal battles, Nicollette Sheridan, an actress most recently known for her stint on the television show “Desperate Housewives,” is still embroiled in litigation with show creator Marc Cherry, as well as ABC and Touchstone. Sheridan’s $20 million lawsuit has been through a hung jury trial and a California appellate court. The most recent movement on her case was a Superior Court ruling that allows the actress to pursue a new trial.

This case began with an alleged altercation between Cherry and Sheridan in 2008, during which the actress claims Cherry struck her. Sheridan later filed a lawsuit, alleging that her contract was not renewed because of her complaint regarding the show’s creator.

The added media scrutiny that is applied to business litigation involving famous entertainers can make the process of resolving legal matters difficult. Entertainers who are considering launching breach of contract or employment lawsuits may wish to speak with an attorney to gain a better understanding of their legal options.
