Las Vegas performer settles civil suit with HSBC

Performing on stage can be a dangerous undertaking, even in well-known establishments such as those found along the Las Vegas Strip. The hotels and casinos that line this street are world-renowned for their music, magic and theatrical shows, but that does not mean that they are immune to lawsuits regarding premises liability and other personal injury claims. If entertainers are injured while on stage at one of these venues, the property owners and other negligent parties may face civil litigation.

Comedian George Wallace and HSBC have settled in a civil lawsuit. The performer had been doing a show for the company at the Bellagio in Las Vegas when he was hurt on stage. Wallace claims that he is now suffering from permanent disability as a result of that incident, as the result of an injury to his Achilles tendon. The details of the settlement have been kept confidential.

The Bellagio was also named as a defendant in this case. In a recent jury decision, Wallace was awarded $1.3 million for lost income, pain and suffering and medical expenses. The comedian originally requested compensation of over $7 million. The Bellagio has not yet indicated whether they will appeal the ruling.

Civil litigation can stem from a number of situations, and Vegas property and business owners who want to vigilantly guard against such lawsuits need to ensure that they maintain safe areas for their customers, staff and entertainers. If you have suffered a personal injury while frequenting such an establishment, you may want to speak with an attorney to review your legal options.
