Las Vegas woman critically injures passenger, arrested for DUI

When Las Vegas residents hear about personal injury lawsuits stemming from car accidents, many assume that the plaintiff and defendant did not know each other. In some situations, however, the passengers of a car may choose to seek compensation against the driver of the same vehicle if that person’s negligent behavior caused the accident.

A 23-year-old Las Vegas woman crashed her vehicle into a wall, critically injuring the 28-year-old male who was riding with her. The man was taken from the scene to University Medical Center, where he received treatment for serious head and abdominal injuries. Reports do not detail the man’s current condition or his prognosis.

The woman, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested and booked for driving under the influence. Reports from local law enforcement authorities did not include her blood alcohol level, but a breathalyzer test registered alcohol on her breath and beer bottles were discovered in her vehicle.

No charges have been brought by the District Attorney’s Office, and reports do not indicate whether the man or his family have shown a desire to pursue civil litigation against the driver.

Car accidents can leave injured parties with disabilities and other long-term problems. If you have been hurt because of the negligent actions of your driver, it may be prudent to discuss your legal options with an attorney. This may help you determine whether you should pursue civil litigation, as well as give you an idea as to what kind of compensation you may be able to obtain.
