Legal options if you have a business dispute with a friend

Some people say you should never involve a friend in business matters. Whether or not you believe this is true, the fact remains that if you conduct business with a friend, you may end up facing business litigation if the terms of your agreement are not met in some way. At the Aldrich Law Firm, Ltd., we are prepared to answer your questions regarding all types of commercial litigation in Las Vegas, whether they pertain to doing business with another company or a friend or family member.

Nobody initiates a business agreement with someone they like intending to go to court later, especially since a lawsuit between friends may likely end the friendship. Unfortunately, in some cases this does happen. For example, as a business owner, you might have a personal friend who is a plumbing contractor and agree to have him do some work on your building pipes for a discounted price. The job might go south if your friend causes damage to the property and fails to make repairs, or if he demands more payment than you agreed upon. In a case like this, states the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, taking the matter to civil court might be an option, despite the awkwardness.

You may also be able to settle your dispute through mediation or another alternative dispute resolution method without going to court. This might help you reach a solution you both can agree with, and hopefully save the friendship.

The above options are available for you to pursue whether you did business with a friend or if your arrangement was strictly professional in nature. You may learn more about legal disputes in business by visiting our web page.
