'Jackass' star was intoxicated, speeding at time of fatal car accident

One of the stars on MTV's hit "Jackass" franchise died in a fiery car accident early Monday morning. Ryan Dunn, 34, was killed in the crash. His passenger, a 30-year-old Iraq war veteran, also was killed. Dunn's car left the roadway around 2:30 a.m. and crashed through a guardrail. The car then crashed through woods and into a tree and caught fire. Both Dunn and his passenger died of blunt force trauma from the crash and thermal trauma from the fire. Police say that Dunn was speeding at the time of the crash and believe Dunn's Porsche was going up to 140 mph.

Toxicology tests were performed during an autopsy and police announced on Wednesday that Dunn was driving while intoxicated at the time of the crash. Dunn's blood alcohol concentration was 0.196 percent. This is more than twice the legal blood alcohol concentration limit of 0.08 in Pennsylvania where the crash occurred, which has the same legal limit as Nevada.

Dunn had been drinking in a bar earlier in the night. He was seen by other patrons drinking and had posted a photo on Twitter of himself holding a drink in the company of friends. Dunn crashed about a mile from the bar.

Dunn was one of the stars of the "Jackass" shows and movies. The crew of guys on the shows entertained people by performing crazier and crazier, sometimes death-defying stunts for awe and laughs. Dunn had started hosting a new program that tried to re-create famous stunts from movies, but it was pulled from the G4 cable network after his death.
