Rapper sued for breach of contract

Las Vegas is a city full of world-renowned shows, five-star restaurants and fashionable nightclubs. Positive publicity is a big part of the success of these ventures, and many businesses will spend substantial sums to ensure that they market their products appropriately. When celebrities are contracted to lend their star presences at marketing events but do not fulfill their agreed-upon duties, they may face contract litigation.

Rapper Nicki Minaj is being sued for breach of contract by Cahuenga, Inc. in New York Supreme Court. The lawsuit alleges that Minaj was paid $53,050 to host an NBA All-Star Weekend event in Hollywood in 2011. According to the complaint, Minaj was hired to appear at the event from midnight until 1:00 in the morning. Cahuenga claims she did not stay for the agreed-upon amount of time and arrived over an hour late. Neither the rapper nor her representatives have commented on this case.

The company is attempting to recoup the amount it paid to Minaj, in addition to other damages, including lost revenue and refund claims. No projections were offered regarding how much this could amount to in total. Reports do not indicate whether the rapper is inclined to settle the issue, or will be heading to court to resolve it.

Lawsuits over failure to perform contractual duties can result in lengthy legal battles and hefty settlement amounts. If you are facing the prospect of business litigation that involves contract disputes, you may want to seek an attorney’s advice as soon as possible. This can help you better understand what the litigation process may entail and what types of damages may result.
