Woman sues Drake, Madison Square Garden over head injury

Drake fans in Nevada may be interested to learn that a 24-year-old New York woman is suing him over a head injury she suffered at one of his concerts. Madison Square Garden, one of the venue’s employees and concert promoter Live Nation are also named in the lawsuit.

According to court documents, the plaintiff was “violently struck” by a beer bottle thrown during a Drake concert at Madison Square Garden on Aug. 8, 2016. The lawsuit claims that the incident was malicious and occurred without provocation. The suit also contends the plaintiff suffered a traumatic brain injury and seizures as a result of the attack and can no longer attend medical school.

The lawsuit goes on to claim that the venue allowed overcrowding, served “excessive amounts of alcohol,” served drinks in glass bottles instead of plastic cups and failed to provide enough security to control the “aggressive” crowd. It further claims that the defendants knew that Drake concerts had a history of violent crowd behavior and should have ensured that glass bottles were not allowed inside the building. A spokesperson for Madison Square Garden said that the venue is “looking into” the lawsuit and considers the safety of its patrons its “highest priority.”

When a public venue allows dangerous property conditions to occur, injured victims have the right to pursue legal action in court. For example, by filing a premises liability claim against the venue, a victim might be awarded compensation for a variety of damages, including current and future medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, mental anguish and more. An attorney familiar with personal injury claims may be able to review a victim’s case and work to obtain the highest settlement possible on his or her behalf. Victims may learn more about the lawsuit process by scheduling a consultation with a legal firm.
