Winter is a time for lawsuits

Nevada residents may have plenty of reasons to celebrate the period of time between Thanksgiving and Super Bowl Sunday. However, it can also be a time in which people are more likely to either pursue a lawsuit or be named in one. This is because individuals tend to drink more during holiday parties and big events such as Super Bowl watch parties.

For example, it’s possible that a bar that supplied a tipsy or drunk driver with alcohol could be named in a personal injury lawsuit. A representative from the American Nightlife Association says that locations that serve alcohol are aware of their liability and take steps to reduce it. This includes not serving those who are clearly intoxicated or may be acting in a threatening manner. In most cases, parties liable for damages settle out of court instead of going to trial.

Couples may also give more credence to the thought of ending their marriages in the first month of the year. According to one California attorney, roughly 35 to 40 percent of divorce cases take place in January and February. However, there may be some good news for those who still look forward to the holiday season. A 2013 study performed by Pew Research found that 69 percent of respondents enjoy spending time with family and friends during that time of year.

Car accidents could result in serious health issues for drivers, passengers and pedestrians. While they tend to be more common in December and January, an injured victim may be entitled to compensation regardless of when a crash occurs. Compensation may help to pay for medical bills, lost wages and other damages. An injured victim might improve their chances of obtaining a favorable outcome in a case by hiring a personal injury attorney.
